Description |
A white-enamelled steel-based icebox thermometer. It has a round base to it, and it is a free-standing thermometer. The glass mercury tube has red mercury in it. There are black-printed temperature gradations, a warning about what temperature was needed to safely preserve food, and a manufacturer's mark showing that it was made by the American Thermometer Company of St. Louis. |

Manufactured in St. Louis by the American Thermometer Company. Last owned/used by Hazel Manning of Owen Sound, Grey County. Her parents, James and Helena Manning, moved their family to Owen Sound in the early 20th-century when Hazel was young. Hazel was born in 1904 and died in 1996. |
