Description |
Un-used, navy-blue women's gloves. They are still are attached by their McKay Bros. price tag. The cuffs each have two self-covered snaps, made by the Scovill Manufacturing Company. The tops of the hands are defined by three blue-stitched lines. The printed tag reads: "The Gem" / McKAYS / Limited / Pg 27 / 7 $1.25". The last two items are pencilled in. One glove has silver-printed lettering side the cuff, which reads: "Niagara Maid". |

Provenance |
Manufactured by Niagara Maid. Dates to the 20th-century. Retailed at the McKay Brothers Drygoods store, in Owen Sound, Grey County. Belonged to Audrey Isabell Matches (1929 - 2010). She trained as a nurse at the Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital, and graduated in 1951. She did post-graduate work in British Columbia. She worked for a long time at the General and Marine Hospital, and subsequently at the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre. Audrey Matches was an Operating Room nurse and retired in 1988. She died on August 15, 2010. The Matches family burials are in Hillcrest Cemetery, in Tara, Bruce County. |
