Provenance |
Manufacturer unknown. Likely dates to the 1930s. William Edward Rice moved to Grey County from Orangeville in 1906. On September 12, 1912, he bought a small piece of property near the southeast corner of the E-1/2 Lot 3, Concession 6 in Holland Township. He moved the Massie blacksmith shop to this location, where it remained until it closed down. This item belonged to his son, George Rice, who operated the blacksmith shop for many years. A 1914 Vernon's Directory listed George Rice at Concession 4e, Lot 3, Holland Township. He died on October 29, 1964, at which point the item passed to his youngest son, Jack Rice, of Kitchener, Ontario. |
