Description |
Home-made rectangular wooden soap rack, consisting of a wide tray (a) with two compartments, and two slotted, removable soap rests (b&c). The back wall of the tray component has two keyhole-shaped hanging holes present. |
Provenance |
Likely hand-made by Hugh McKay or one of his sons. It was formerly used at the McKay farm in Sydenham Township, and later in Derby Township. The Hugh and Jeanette McKay family farmed in the Annan/Leith area of Sydenham Township, Grey County. The McKay family farm was located about one mile north of Leith. Donald Gordon (Doug) McKay and his wife Olive (née Beattie) also farmed there in Sydenham Township, until c.1940, before they moved to Derby Township to another farm. The item was last kept by their daughter, Donna McKay-Mills of Owen Sound, Grey County. |
