Description

A hat brush, that advertises DUCKWORTH'S HATS, and is a pre-1909 item. It is a wooden-handled brush used for removing lint from hats. It has natural bristles set into the wood. There are 18 rows of bristles (each bristle is about 2 cm long). Some of the bristles are dyed black, the others are left natural. The top side of the brush is flat and is printed with "WEAR DUCKWORTH'S HATS, 25 POULETT ST."

Provenance

Unknown maker. Found among the estate items of Whitford A. Harris, of Owen Sound, Grey County. Likely was first used by his father, William David Harris. The item advertises a hat shop that was situated at 25 Poulett St., Owen Sound. In 1909, Owen Sound renamed its streets, and Poulett St. became 2nd Ave. East (main street).
