an impressed mark on the underside for RIDGEWAY BATES & CO. GRAND SHAPE. This was an English pottery, that used this name only between 1856-1858. |
Provenance |
Likely circa 1860 when it was first used, as the Ridgeway Bates & Co. Grand Shape mark was only used between 1856-1858. Last owned by A. Amy Kennedy, a grand-daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Inglis, who operated the mills at what is now known as "Inglis Falls", Derby Township , Grey County. Her mother was Helen Inglis (Mrs. Thomas Kennedy). Amy Kennedy lived for about 19 years in the house where Victor Inglis lived, at Inglis Falls, and also resided in Owen Sound. Her father was a descendent of foundryman /millwright William Kennedy Sr. of Owen Sound. It is unknown which family, Inglis or Kennedy, first owned the platter. |
