Description |
Two-handled scythe. It has a bare, curved wooden snath (long handle), and two bare wooden grips with metal hardware attaching them to the snath. There are small remnants of red paint on it. A hexagonal nut holds the blade socket to the handle. No maker's marks observed on the blade. |

Manufacturer unknown. Likely dates to the 20th-century. Belonged to Donald Gordon "Doug" McKay. He grew up one mile north of Leith, in Sydenham Township, and was a member of the Hugh McKay family. He and his wife, Olive McKay (nee Beattie), lived on a rural property in Keppel or Derby Township, Grey County in the Jackson area from 1940 onwards. Last owned by his daughter, Donna McKay-Mills of Owen Sound, Grey County. |
