Description |
Open-topped, woven splint basket. Oblong shape. No lid, no handle, but the shorter ends each have an opening for a finger grip. Round nail heads visible along the top where they secure the rim. |

Provenance |
Maker unknown. Belonged to the Bishop family of Owen Sound, Grey County who used it as "a doll's basket." It was likely obtained from someone of the Saugeen Ojibwa in the early 20th century. It was owned for a long time by Jean Bishop of Owen Sound. In the late 19th-century and early 20th-century, basket peddlars from the local reserves sold basketry in the Owen Sound area into the 1940s. |
