Description |
A rectangular (portrait orientated) printing plate showing a woman seated at saddle-style spinning wheel, inside a house, near the hearth. There is a wool winder at the left, and a rocking chair in the background, a hand bellows and a long gun above the mantle. The artwork is very likely by Roy Fleming, and he is likely showing the Fleming family homestead. The zinc plate is etched/engraved. |
Makers mark |
No signature seen in the plate, but there is a key-like mark or motif near the bottom right corner. |
Provenance |
Roy Franklin Fleming of Kilsyth, Derby Township, Grey County, apparently was the creator/illustrator of this item. It might depict the pioneer Alexander Fleming homestead in Derby Township? The item was also likely made and used in Owen Sound by the R-B-W printing business of C. A. Fleming (a relative of his). The image was first published in 19__. It was last owned by Ruth H. Lamour (neé Fleming) of Carleton Place, Ontario. |
