Description |
This is a narrow, non-magnetic metal box. The lid is rounded outwards and has the following in relief, "Brownie, Eastman Kodak Company Developing Box". In the left corner (bottom) on the top there is a hole that is 1.7 cm in dia. that is plugged with a cork. The lid itself is 38.3 cm long x 8.9 cm. wide. There are two clamps on each side to hold the lid on. These clamps are attached to a piece of metal that is bent almost straight up and down on the sided and goes straight across the bottom. This piece of metal acts almost like a teeter-totter. On the back side of the box is stamped into the metal is "U.S. Patents--Apr. 17, 1900, Apr. 6, 1909, Made in USA". The bottom of the box is 37.3 cm. long x 7.9 cm. wide x 4.6 cm. deep. There is a slight lip on the top edge of the bottom of the box which fits into the groove on the lid. On the longer sides of the bottom of the left side about 6.4 cm. from the end there are two dents, one above the other. They are shaped in a semi-circle. On the other end of the back side of the box there is a handle. Part of it folds up (the end folds out to a 90 degree angle from the other bar) into the rest of the handle. The main part of the handle is 2.4 cm. long. Inside the box there are two wooden spools. The one on the left is 6.6 cm. long and 1.5 cm. dia. There is a metal handle attached to this spool. Running through the middle of the spool is metal wire that is 12.8 cm. long (it goes from one side of the box, through the spool, and runs along the other side where it is welded on. At the other end of the box is another wooden spool. Bothe of these spools have a gouge in the middle where some coarse thread is wound. The handle on the outside runs trough the middle of the spool so that it can be wound from the outside. Whereas this spool runs from side to side, the other spool has ends that are carved out (the ends are smaller than the rest of the spool). Long, black metal box (a) and lid (b) with "Brownie EASTMAN KODAK COMPANY developing box" printed on the lid. |
