Description |
Red-finished MONARCH cast iron pumpjack with black painted flywheel, c. 1940. It was manufactured by the Monarch Machinery Co. Ltd. of Winnipeg. The pumpjack is predominately made out of cast iron. It has an enclosed, oil bath gear box design. The housing is bolted to a rectangular base. There is a 56 cm diameter drive wheel. Emboss-cast on the drive side of the housing is "MONARCH / MONARCH MACHINERY CO. LTD., WINNIPEG, CANADA". Emboss-cast on the opposite side of the housing is "oil line". There is an oil filler, level and drain plugs. Emboss-cast on both sides of the base is "MONARCH". There is an angle iron cast iron yoke for linking it to a pump. The jack straddles the pump, after the pump handle is removed. The piston rod is attached to the metal extension part of the jack. The pulley belt of a gasoline engine is placed around the flywheel of the jack. |
