Description |
Souvenir plate with a transfer-printed illustration of Front St., Owen Sound. It is a glazed ceramic plate, 6 inches in diameter, with a lot of orange and yellow shading at the rim. "Front St." refers to the main street. This illustration shows Poulett St. looking southwards from the Division St. intersection. The reverse side has a maker's mark for "Victoria", a crown motif, and "Austria" on it. |
Makers mark |
The reverse side has a maker's mark for "Victoria", a crown motif, and "Austria" on it. |
Provenance |
The plate pre-dates the 1909 street name change, where Owen Sound adopted New York-style numbering. Manufactured in Austria and then likely was sold at an Owen Sound, Grey County store. Last owned by Agnes Nairne Brown (d. 1997) who divided her time between residing in Owen Sound and teaching music at Toronto at an exclusive girl's school. |
