Printed label cylindrical cardboard two-piece canister of Pablum, manufactured by Mead Johnson & Co. of Canada Ltd., Belleville. 1934 patent (No. 346,700). The printed label is light blue, yellow, red and black, and also provides some recipes. "5514" is faintly stamped in blue ink. |

Provenance |
Manufactured at Belleville, Ontario, by the Mead Johnson & Co. of Canada Limited factory. The product was invented in 1930/1931 at the Toronto Hospital for sick children and patented in Canada in 1934. This first ready-to-use vitamin and mineral enriched baby cereal was invented by Drs. Alan Brown, Fred Tisdall and Theo Drake. Used by Olive McKay (née Beattie) for feeding her daughter Donna. The McKay family farmed at Lot 28, Concession A Sydenham until 1940, and then moved to Lot 9, along Highway 21 in the Springmount area. The item last belonged to Donna McKay-Mills of Owen Sound, Grey County. |
