Description |
ORANGE QUENCH pop bottle (its glass pattern was registered in May, 1931). It is made of clear, pressed glass. There is a bulbous area in the mid-section which is textured and has "Orange" on one side and "Quench" on the other. Above and below this bulbous area, which represents an orange, are vertical ridges and a skirted shape, which add visual interest to the bottle, and an improved grip. The lip was made to have a metal cap on it (would have to be pried off with a bottle opener). In embossed lettering around the base is "WM. TAYLOR & SON LTD./ OWEN SOUND, ONT". Also present is "CONTENTS 6 1/2 FL OZ" [six and a half fluid ounces]. The underside of the base has embossed lettering in a circular format: "DESIGN REG MAY 1931". There is also a diamond-D mark (= Dominion Glass Co.) and "33". |
Makers mark |

Provenance |
Made for/bottled by Wm. Taylor & Son Limited of Owen Sound, Grey County. ORANGE QUENCH bottles of this shape were a registered design glass pattern produced by the Dominion Glass Company. It might have been made in the Hamilton plant? The design of this bottle was registered in May, 1931. Another version was registered in 1937, and a newspaper advertisement illustration from 1944 or 1945 shows that the second bottle shape was still in use at that time. |
