Description |
19th-century brown and gilt ornately-patterned cover "Floral Album" photograph album, with triangular brass catch for a brass knob. Some of the pages are decorated with printed floral and bird motifs. Some of the pages only have gilt-printed decoration around the photograph windows. Most of the photographs have been removed. There is still an Owen Sound William Gould photographer albumen portrait of "Miss Muriel Manley's grandmother" inside. There is also an albumen photograph of a bearded man. |

The previous owner, Eleanor Rixon, died in 1974. Her English-born father, Henry Rixon, had emigrated in 1860, and was at Leith, in Sydenham Township, Grey County for a while before moving his family to Owen Sound, Ontario in the late 19th-century. He was involved with the Rixon, Maitland and Stoddart lumber company there. Eleanor Rixon also was related to the Ainslie family, which was of Scottish origin. Her mother was formerly Helen Ainslie (a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Ainslie). The Rixon family home was at 894 5th Avenue East., Owen Sound, Grey County. Eleanor Rixon and her sister, Laura Rixon, had continued to live there after their parents passed away, but also spent a lot of time at Leith. The Rixon burial plot is at Leith Cemetery, in the former Sydenham Township, and includes the following: William Augustus Rixon (b. 1869-d. 1892) Henry Rixon (father) 1838-1920 Helen Rixon (mother) 1847-1913 Ada A.
