Provenance |
This serving platter was manufactured in Staffordshire, England. The maker's name varies in different sources: Hollingshed and Kirkham (Ltd.) Unicorn Pottery, Staffordshire Potteries. The mark on this platter would date it between 1870-1900. Holinshed & Kirkham (Ltd.) Tunstall, Staffordshire, UK. Based at the Unicorn Pottery in Tunstall from 1876 (previously at Burslem 1870-1876)) this company produced earthenwares 1870-1956, then it was bought up by Johnson Bros. (Hanley) Ltd. Messrs Hollinshead & Kirkham is another spelling seen for this company name. Owned/used by the Dr. Melville and Marjorie Knox (neé McFadden) family who resided in Owen Sound but also had a farm in Derby Township, Grey County. |
