Description |
White plaster female figurine. Half of a matching pair that would be suitable to display on a mantelpiece or a wide piece of furniture such as a sideboard, or on a parlour table. A cast , unfired plaster figurine painted white and standing on a platform. She is wearing a long Empire-waisted dress with puffy sleeves and ruffle cuffs. Swoop neck front with high collar at back. Her hair is curly at front with a tight bun at back. She wearing a pearl necklace and holding a bouquet. |

This pair of figurines were used as ornaments in the farm home of William Reid (1819-1905), who pioneered in the Walters Falls district. He was an ancestor Wm. G. Reid, who later owned the figurines in Owen Sound, Grey County. Later belonged to Jean Reid (née Givens), b.1900-d.1965. Her parents, James and Minnie Givens, married in 1898. The Givens family farmed in the Massie district of Holland Township, Grey County. Jean Reid later lived in Owen Sound, Grey County. She was married to William G. Reid who was descended from the Milson and Reid families of Grey County. James and Minnie Givens are buried at Greenwood Cemetery, in Owen Sound. |
