Description |
One wooden SPIESZ dining chair with black leather seat. Backrest of the chair is a carved wood inlay, this inlay is loose and will move if not handled carefully. This chair is part of a set of five other chairs. This chair was part of a 1935 dining room suite (Model 295) manufactured by the SPIESZ FURNITURE CO. LTD. of Hanover. |
Provenance |
Part of a dining room suite that was purchased at the Legate's Furniture Store in Owen Sound, Grey County, on October 29, 1935. It was made by the Spiesz Furniture Co. Ltd. of Hanover, Grey County. The suite was purchased new by Mr. Victor Porteous for the price of $125. Victor C. Porteous married Alma Mary Wilson on August 26, 1914. After their marriage, they took over the Porteous family farm in Derby Township, running it until 1952, when they moved to Owen Sound. Last owned by their daughter, Le Ola Eyres (neé Porteous). |
