Description |
Foundry casting wooden pattern for a NORANDA 2K7C part. The wood is black-painted, except for the 8 rectangular blocks affixed to the outer curve. There is a protruding cylindrical area that is 5.2 cm in diameter. The rest of the pattern is semi-circular, with an open semi-circular area inside. The lead part number affixed is "B10431". Hand-painted roughly in white is "5/8 NORANDA 2K7C 518". The pattern would be used for green sand casting purposes in the foundry. |

The foundry casting pattern for a NORANDA part was made and kept by Black Clawson-Kennedy, a company that was located at Owen Sound, Grey County until 1997, when it closed. It likely dates from a 1962 order. BCK was best-known for producing large ship propellers, but it also made various marine parts as well as industrial and mining and paper-making equipment. The foundry was located at 1141 1st Ave. West. It was formerly known as William Kennedy & Sons Ltd. The item subsequently belonged to Mr. Kerry Murch of Meaford, Grey County. |

A wooden pattern intended for sand casting work to create metal versions of the part. It was hand-made in Owen Sound at the Black Clawson-Kennedy foundry's pattern shop. Skilled patternmakers at Kennedy’s made various wooden patterns. As they involved a lot of work to make them, they were often retained in case they might be needed again to replace parts for clients. A lot of the older patterns were lost in the 1950s fire, so this one likely post-dates then? |
