Description |
Enamelled iron ashtray. Black on the underside with lettering etched (?) into the enamel. The lip is also black. The centre is multi-coloured (red, yellow, green, blue) in a swirled abstract form. It looks like the enamel was mixed together so although this is likely a mass produced item no two may be exactly alike. |
Provenance |
Made at Empire Stove & Furnace Company Limited, Owen Sound, Grey County. Reportedly an enamelling plant was added in 1929. Last owned by Rick Harrison and Don McKay, who grew up in Owen Sound. - - - - Croft, Melba, RENEWAL OF A CANADIAN PORT, p. 8 (1922) |
