Provenance |
Manufactured by Birks-Ellis. Issued to a member of the Earl Grey I.O.D.E. at Owen Sound, Grey County. The Earl Grey I.O.D.E. Chapter was inaugurated on May 18, 1905. The women of the group did a lot of fundraising war work during the First and Second World War time periods. For Canadians, the Second World War began in 1939. This badge was issued to Estelle Bonnell (nee Jasper) of Owen Sound (wife of Ernest Bonnell, usually known as E. D. Bonnell). She last kept it with her at the Lee Manor Retirement Home before she passed it on to the Earl Grey Chapter on December 5, 1983. The item was collected by and last owned by Alice Holland (née Mock) of Owen Sound. She belonged to a different I.O.D.E. chapter. |
