Description |
Woman's white girdle with lace-up, silvertone metal grommettes and four suspender attachments for holding up stockings. It looks brand-new. It has a LIGHTNING tab and a white ribbon pull on its back zipper. The zipper is off-set from the central lace-up area at the back. The girdle has a lot of boning, and two triangular elastic areas. The fabric is woven with a shiny white floral pattern, which also incorporates diagonal motifs. The interior has white, vinyl-like fabric, and white flannel. There are white plastic and silvertone-plated fittings. The interior has a blue and white woven label reading: "individually Spencer designed" and "Made in Canada". |

Provenance |
Manufactured by Individually Spencer. Zippers made by the Lightning Zipper Company of St. Catharines, Ontario. Dates to the 20th-century. Belonged to Audrey Isabell Matches (1929 - 2010). She trained as a nurse at the Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital, and graduated in 1951. She did post-graduate work in British Columbia. She worked for a long time at the General and Marine Hospital, and subsequently at the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre. Audrey Matches was an Operating Room nurse and retired in 1988. She died on August 15, 2010. The Matches family burials are in Hillcrest Cemetery, in Tara, Bruce County. |
