Provenance |
Manufactured by the Canadian Can Company of Canada Limited for Taylor Soft Drinks Limited of Owen Sound (previously known as William Taylor and Son). Likely dates to the late 1960s. Belonged to William Humphrey Taylor. He was the son of William Taylor, who started a bottling company in Owen Sound, Grey County in 1884. In 1886, he partnered with John C. Pringle to form the Taylor and Pringle company. According to the 1892 Rutherford's Directory of Owen Sound, Taylor and Pringle manufactured "Belfast Ginger Ale" at the Belfast Ginger Ale Works. The factory was located at 156, Boyd Street. William Taylor and his family resided at 158, Boyd Street, and John Pringle's family resided at 141, Boyd Street. John Pringle died in 1911, and William Taylor created William Taylor and Son, Limited on April 19, 1917. After his death and that of his son, Christopher, in January and May of 1925, his business was managed by Clara Taylor and her son, Humphrey Taylor (born 1909). Upon her death in 1956, Humphrey Taylor became Manager. The two-storey brick factory was located at 957 4th Ave. East. Circa 1960, the firm's name changed to Taylor Soft Drinks Limited. The firm was sold in 1971. Last owned by Nora Helen Taylor, a daughter of William Humphrey Taylor. |
