Description |
Cast iron (overpainted black) wall-mounted double match holder, with a deer head (missing part of one antler at the right), dividers, hunting horn, two males (hunters) and a dead hare and dead game bird. No foundry identification. The match holder component is held onto the back piece by means of two bent rods at the back. |

Unknown foundry of origin. Possibly the Gerolamy Iron Works at Tara? Belonged to the Hugh and Jeanette (Jane) McKay family who farmed in the Annan/Leith area of Sydenham Township, Grey County. The McKay family farm was located about one mile north of Leith, at Lot 28, Concession A. One son, Donald Gordon (Doug) McKay, and his wife Olive (née Beattie), also farmed there in Sydenham Township, until 1940, when they moved to Derby Township to another farm (Lot 9, along Highway 21) in the Jackson area. The item last belonged to Donna McKay-Mills of Owen Sound, Grey County. |
