Description |
This is a L.O.B.A. Lodge No. 485 ribbon badge (with an "In Memoriam" side as well). This would have been worn by a female who belonged to the Lady Carson Lodge No. 485 at Owen Sound, Ontario. L.O.B.A. = Ladies Orange Benevolent Association. This ribbon badge was made by the Dominion Regalia Co. of Toronto. One side is red silk ribbon, with gilt-coloured printed lettering on it: "LADY CARSON / LODGE NO. 485 / L.O.B.A. / DESBORO, ONT." The upper area has an overlaying orange ribbon with two rippled Red Ensign flag appliques and a gilt-coloured printed maple leaf and beaver to represent Canada. Suspended on the orange ribbon is a circular, brass-edged celluloid piece with a colourful printed illustration of a bible with the faith, hope and charity symbol of a cross with a heart and anchor on it. The wording reads as "LADIES ORANGE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION". The top of the ribbon badge has a celluloid-fronted pinstem badge, which is white, with a grain sheaf and sickle illustration, and the short form letters of "L.O.B.A." The other side is black silk, printed with silver-coloured lettering and designs. This "In Memoriam" side would be worn in view for funerals of members. The ribbon badge is edged with gilt-coloured braid, with a decorative gilt fringe at the bottom. When it arrived at the museum, it came in a red-printed brown paper envelope with advertising on it for the Dominion Regalia Co. of 175 King St. West, Toronto. |
