Description |
Walnut-finished extension dining table. The table is made of walnut wood and has a dark brown finish. The table top (A) has an extension board that is made in two sections. This board folds in half and stores underneath the table top. A small catch holds the table from separating and it has a wire release pull underneath the table at one end. This pull wire has a circular pull handle. The folding board has two bent copper hardware pieces, and some other hardware. The underside of the table has Robertson screws, some flat-headed slotted screws, and grooved boards for the extension feature. There is still a red and white printed paper label from the Spiesz furniture company present. The skirt around the edge of the table top is 11 cm high. The edge is decoratively-moulded, and the table top has angled corners. The table leg assembly (B) has the table top resting on an H-stretcher, that is supported by four pedestals. The pedestals (somewhat urn-shaped) are similar to the front legs of the matching chairs. The pedestals rest on a u-shaped base, under which are castors. A decorative, curved piece of walnut wood is applied on the base between the two pedestals at each end of the table and supports the lower stretcher. This table was part of a 1935 dining room suite (Model 295) manufactured by the SPIESZ FURNITURE CO. LTD. of Hanover. |
