Description |
A folk art miniature depiction of the settler's log cabin period building as it looked when it was part of the County of Grey-Owen Sound Museum site (975 6th St. East, Owen Sound). It is designed with a cut-away at the back so that one can look into the building. It has a loft ladder, and other furnishings. It was electrified with a twisted green plastic covered wire and two-prong plug (125V) so that the outdoor fire lights up under the pole tripod. The cabin model (a) is mounted on a lightweight base, and has faux vegetation, and (b), a removable free-standing bird house (the real cabin did not have this feature). The "logs" are dowels. The stone fireplace and chimney looks like it is made out of plaster or Femo modelling material. The makers inverted the furnishings of the two bedroom areas. The bunk-style pole beds in the real cabin are positioned in the area closer to the front door. |
Provenance |
The Grey-Owen Sound Museum log cabin building opened in 1972 or 1973. Francis and Vera Bellenger of Toronto studied it and made a miniature of it between 1990 and 1996. They displayed it in their home in Toronto from 1997 until October, 2016. |

Function |
A folk art miniature, made in the 1990s, that was inspired by a replica settler's cabin that was shown at the County of Grey-Owen Sound Museum between 1973-2003. It was electrified so that the "fire" could be lit up when the piece was exhibited. |
