Description |
A two-gallon crockery jug for vinegar. It is a glazed stoneware ceramic jug. There is a beige-white glaze cylindrical body, with a 1 cm high beige recessed area above it. Then there is a dark brown shiny glaze on the shouldered upper area, neck and handle. The jug is cork stoppered. 150 degrees clockwise from the handle is a semi-circular faded patch at the edge of the brown colouration. There is no pottery identification mark present. |
Provenance |
The vinegar jug was used in Owen Sound, Grey County, but its pottery of origin is not known. It belonged to the Alexander W. McFaul family, who owned a grocery store in Owen Sound. The store closed in 1934. The McFauls resided at 922 2nd Ave. West. The item later belonged to R. C. McFaul, and then by his wife, Winnifred McFaul (neé King). |
