Provenance |
Made in Germany and apparently customized in New York by the J. Dukas & Co. business. Dates to the 20th-century. This item advertizes the John McQuaker & Co. store, which was located at the first door north of the City Hall on Poulett Street in 1906. This location was later called 834 2nd Avenue East. John McQuaker became Mayor of Owen Sound in 1914-1915, and also served as Warden of Grey County in 1919. It was found amidst household items which had belonged to David Toms' grandparents. The Toms family once farmed in Sydenham Township, Grey County, but the family of Cecil Toms later moved to Owen Sound. It was last owned by David Toms. |
