Provenance |
Manufactured by the Dominion Glass Company. Dates to 1942. Belonged to William Humphrey Taylor. He was the son of William Taylor, who started a bottling company in Owen Sound, Grey County in 1884. In 1886, he partnered with John C. Pringle to form the Taylor and Pringle company. According to page 117 of Melba Croft's "Growth of a County Town", in 1909, Taylor and Pringle were Owen Sound's sole Coca-Cola retailers. John Pringle died in 1911, and William Taylor created William Taylor and Son, Limited on April 19, 1917. After his death and that of his son, Christopher, in January and May of 1925, his business was managed by Clara Taylor and her son, Humphrey Taylor (born 1909). Upon her death in 1956, Humphrey Taylor became Manager. The two-storey brick factory was located at 969, 3rd Avenue East. The firm was sold in 1971. Last owned by Nora Helen Taylor. |
