Description |
Scottish thistle motif belt buckle and tartan belt. The belt is made of a tartan patterned grosgrain-like ribbon that is 5cm high. The tartan is predominantly red, with dark green and yellow stripes. There is a large (8 cm wide) brass buckle that has a stippled and bent ovoid background. There is a prong-mounted amethyst stone in between the antlers of a stag head motif. The stag head is flanked with two Scottish thistle motifs. |

Lieutenant John Milton ("Milt") Dobie sent this item home to one of his five sisters during the First World War after his leave in Scotland. At the time the Dobie family farmed in Sullivan Township, Grey County. Soon after Milt Dobie was killed in France (1918). Subsequently owned by his sister, Margaret Dobie of Owen Sound. |
