Description |
Mechanical nodding head polar bear toy (a) and metal winding key (b). The bear figure has a fur-like covering on it. The bear figure stands on and is attached to a papier-mache "ice" base. The bear's lower jaw is hinged and moves by gravity when the head bobs after being wound up. There is a winding key hole on the proper right side of the body to wind the mechanism that drives the head movement. |
Provenance |
At some point, Arthur Cameron, the store keeper at Leith, Grey County, obtained this toy and displayed it in his store (which he had built in 1864). The Cameron family sold the store in 1948. In March, 1949, William Rust D'Eye purchased the store and also displayed the bear toy. He operated the store until 1958. Last owned by Jack Prohaska of Owen Sound, Grey County. |
