Description |
Colourless pressed glass, square-bottomed extract bottle with a cork stopper. It still has its printed label affixed to it. The neck has a small quantity of cord wrapped around it. It once held vanilla flavouring, and has "PEARL CONCENTRATED EXTRACT FOR FLAVORING / J. M. Thompson, Bognor." The label once had a white background, with blue, red and dull-gold-coloured lettering. Provenance |
Manufactured for the J. M. Thompson store in Bognor, Sydenham Township, Grey County. James Milroy Thompson, formerly of Galt, moved to Sydenham in 1884 and was a General Merchant until his death in 1931. The store building eventually burned down in 1957. Dates to the early 20th-century. It was found on a farm which, according to the 1901 census, belonged to Robert and Margaret Miller, and subsequently to their son Vincent Miller. The Miller family land record identifies the property as Lot 9, Concession 2, Sydenham. The farm's land record is dated 1853, and the farm was one hundred acres. The fire number may have been 397810. It last belonged to John and Muriel Strba, who lived on the Miller farm in 2009. |
