Description |
Triple-sheaved pulley block (wood and metal). It has three metal pulleys in a brown-finished wooden casing built up with seven pieces of wood. The sides are oval-shaped. The thick iron hanging hook has an eye that encircles two thick bent metal strap-like pieces that are inserted into the pulley block. The bottom end has hardware to provide a bracket for a metal pulley wheel that is held in place with a square-headed bolt and square nut. There is a worn black finish on the metal. No maker's mark. |

Likely first used by Hugh McKay and his sons. The Hugh and Jeanette McKay family farmed in the Annan/Leith area of Sydenham Township, Grey County. The McKay family farm was located about one mile north of Leith. The next owner, Donald Gordon (Doug) McKay, and his wife Olive (née Beattie), also farmed there in Sydenham Township, until c.1940, before they moved to Derby Township to another farm, at Lot 9, along Highway 21. The item was last kept by their daughter, Donna McKay-Mills of Owen Sound, Grey County. |
