Description |
A small round trinket box decorated with dyed porcupine quills in a Christmas bell motif and a holly sprig (on its lid). The box is First Nations-made, and is birch bark. |
Provenance |
Unknown maker. May have belonged to George Hindman who was involved with lumbering and shipping and had timber limits in the Georgian Bay area, so he knew some First Nations people. This is very likely a 20th-century item and likely was obtained from an Ojibwa basket maker in the Georgian Bay area (who likely made it for the souvenir trade). Last owned by his daughter, Helen Evans (neé Hindman) of Owen Sound Grey County. |
