Description |
One of a group of six hand-carved Holstein cows. The cow has a rectangular light brown-finished base and is painted black and white. She has nail head eyes. Her (proper) left ear is broken off, showing the vertical grain of the wood. |

The underside is signed with three pencilled lines, in script lettering: "Erskine Brown / Thornbury / Ontario" |
Provenance |
Made between 1961-1981 by James Erskine Horton Brown, a retired dairy farmer from Derby Township, Grey County, who moved in May, 1959 to Thornbury, Grey County. He was usually known as Erskine Brown. The last owner, Randy Moore, used to work for Norm Brown (son of Erskine Brown) at Norm and Pat Brown's dairy farm and received this carving, and others, as a gift. |
