Description |
One of two similar wooden lawn bowling bowls (likely lignum vitae wood). There is an inlaid lighter circular area with margin and "SO" or "OS", with a circular "MM" on the opposite side. The wood also has incised rings. Faint impressed maker's mark from "ENGLISH BOWLING ASSOCIATION / JAQUES & SON / LONDON". "5 1/16" impress-stamped as well. Also has a "69" or "60" or is it 09 for 1909? impress-stamped. Also has a "BIAS NO. 3" mark. |

Provenance |
Manufactured in London, England, by the Jaques & Son factory, and exported to Canada. Used by someone with a connection to or a member of the Roselawn Lawn Bowling Club of Owen Sound. It was found with a number of similar bowls in the attic of the Roselawn Clubhouse building in 2016 during renovations. The Roselawn Lawn Bowling Club was established in 192_ on the west side of Owen Sound by Ed Roseborough and others, and was initially known as the Owen Sound North Club. A few years later, in 1928, it moved to another clubhouse location at _________. |

A factory-made lawn bowling bowl, made of a durable wood (lignum vitae), with a weight inside it at one side . It was formerly used in Owen Sound by a lawn bowler, and was found in the attic of the Roselawn Lawn Bowling Club's building during renovation, along with other lawn bowling memorabilia. Each player needed four bowls when playing a game. |
