Description |
Large CROWN jar (a), sealer lid (b) and metal ring (c). On the front of the jar is a moulded beaver and a log under which is "BEAVER". The bottom is moulded with a "10". The lid has "Made in Canada" on it and a crown under the text. Under the crown is a mounded "4". |
Provenance |
The Ontario Glass Co. (Kingsville, Ontario) made "Beaver" jars between 1899 and 1902. The Sydenham Glass Co. (Wallaceburg, Ontario) made made Beaver fruit jars until 1913.The sealer lid was made by Dominion Glass. Unknown provenance. Likely had belonged to a long term care resident or used to store food as it was found at Grey Gables Long Term Care Home in February, 2022, in their "Heritage Room" where items from the Grey County House of Refuge and after, were stored for many years. |
