Description |
One circular strip of coarse crocheting - perhaps intended for trimming a petticoat. Diamond shapes are created with a checkerboard pattern of filet crochet with the points creating the serrated bottom edge of the trim. The crochetwork has a beige colouration (ecru crochetwork was very popular in the early 20th-century). There is one seam joining the two ends together. |
Provenance |
May have belonged to Rhoda Jean Kennedy (neé Ross, b. 1897-d. 1971), who married Robert Pollock Kennedy Jr. in February, 1928. They lived at Owen Sound and Guelph. Or may have belonged to Hazel Kennedy, Rosemary's paternal aunt, who also resided at Owen Sound, as some of Hazel's items were inherited by Rosemary. Hazel Kennedy of Owen Sound, Ontario, who was descended from Wm. Kennedy Sr. and Agnes Stark Kennedy, who moved to Owen Sound in the 1850s. Hazel's mother, Cascella Kennedy (nee Miller) might be another possibility for its original ownership. Inherited by Rosemary Kennedy of Owen Sound, Grey County. |

Function |
Decorative trim that was crocheted by hand, and likely intended to decorate the hem area of a petticoat, or the open end of a pillowcase. It would be hand-sewn onto the item. Filet crochet patterns were very popular in the 1920s. |
