Description |
A Masonic regalia item, a Master Mason's lambskin apron, with "A. N." crudely-embroidered on the reverse side's maker's label. The woven maker's label is from the Muir Cap & Regalia Ltd. of 51 Simcoe Street, Toronto. The front side of the white lambskin is decorated at the perimeterwith pale blue grosgrain ribbon and bullion (gold-coloured) trim, as well as brasstone hardware pieces. There are two groups of seven pendant chains, and three inverted T brasstone pieces with the Masonic dividers and compass symbol. The back side is pale blue satin. There are two thick blue twisted cord waist ties with large twist cord tassels. |

Reverse side has a sewn-on woven label (white with blue design and lettering). There is a shield-shaped motif with THE MUIR centrally. It is flanked with "EST." and "187_". The word "GRAND" is below the shield. "MUIR CAP & REGALIA LTD. / 51 SIMCOE ST. TORONTO". If the two hanging ribbons are lifted up, the back side of the bars has PAT. 952254 / NOS. 957809 / MADE / IN ENGLAND. |

Manufactured at Toronto by the Muir Cap & Regalia Ltd. The hardware has Made in England and a patent date on it. Owned/used by Archie N. MacCuaig. The MacCuaig farm was in Glenelg Township, Grey County. He was a member of the Durham Masonic Lodge #306 and Chapter #221 for 50 years. He was a Worshipful Master and Life Member. This item was passed down to Norman Robinson of the Edge Hill area of Glenelg Township. It last belonged to Norman's wife, Ruth Anne Robinson (née Hollands), of Kincardine, Ontario. |

The cords allowed the Masonic apron to be tied around the man's waist. "The lambskin Master Mason apron derives from the working apron of the ancient stone masons. It is an Emblem of Innocence and the badge of a Freemason". |
