Description |
Sheer black-coloured, chiffon evening blouse with white piping on the front collar and black beading and white beading. The beading is one black large-beaded line that echoes the line of the collar. From this line, six vertical lines run down the front of the blouse. The innermost two are interrupted by a black and white diamond shaped decoration (small beads) which sits between the breasts. The left lapel comes up over to the wearer's right and does up on the right side and along the right shoulder via five black metal dome fasteners. There are 11 very narrow pleats that run from each shoulder down vertically to the breastline. |
Provenance |
Maker unknown. An early 20th-century item. The last owner, Bessie Newman, told museum staff that it had belonged to someone in the Witherspoon family (her husband's maternal relations). The Witherspoons had a farm at Jackson, Grey County (west of Owen Sound). Jessie, Anne, Lillian, Maud, Walter, Dave, Jim and Peter were members of the family. |
