Description |
Man's black woollen waistcoat with a low, rounded "V"-shaped neck. Braided trim runing along the pockets only. Four buttons (of which three remain). Each front side is longer and is pointed at the bottom edge. There are two slot-style breast pockets trimmed with black braid, and two low slot pockets, also trimmed with black braid. There is one small slit at the bottom of each side seam and also at the center back. These are intentional. The back is a plain, cotton sateen fabric. Below the right armhole, on the back, is a small white tag with "6378" and "3". Therefore this was likely a manufactured garment. |
Provenance |
Maker unknown. Likely used/worn by Alexander Wesley McFaul (1859-1949), an Owen Sound, Grey County grocery store owner. Owned by R. C. McFaul, until 1965, and then by Winnifred McFaul (neé King) of Owen Sound. |
