Function |
Meat hooks doubled as grappling hooks that retrieved things from the bottoms of wells. A hook was very necessary to a household as the well was used many times a day, as foods needing regrigeration were often lowered into it. Items lost beneath the water could not be seen, so they could only be retrieved by groping. The well hook was used as much as any other implements of the old-time household. |
