Provenance |
Formerly used somewhere at the old Courthouse building (or the old gaol that was also at that location). The completion of the stone County Courthouse building enabled the Provisional County of Grey to become an independent County in 1854. The County building had been built and completed in 1853. The gaol area was still rather insecure, and went through some improvements in later years to try and make it more secure and larger. The Courthouse fronted on Bay Street (now 3rd Ave. East), Owen Sound, Grey County. In 1959, the County purchased a new property for a County Administration building, and this key and other artifacts of the old courthouse travelled to the Clerk-Treasury vault. They were transferred to the museum in 1990. |
