Description |
This pottery-made jug is glazed earthenware. The glaze has an orangy-brown colour to it. It is a two-gallon size jug, and is cork-stoppered. There is impressed lettering on the shoulder area opposite the handle: "J. LEMON / OWEN SOUND, ON./2". The bottom is rough and marked from past use, but no maker's mark is located there. |

Provenance |
Likely made in Owen Sound, Grey County between 1880-1896. The John Lemon pottery, known as "Lemon's Georgian Bay Pottery" was located on the west side of Owen Sound harbour. Last owned by Louise MacKay (neé Bishop), the sister of Billy Bishop, the First World War flying ace. |
