This is an IVES & ALLEN sad iron. The item is completely made out of iron. The handle grip area has a textured surface, with "IVES & ALLEN" emboss-cast at the top side. The top of the iron also had decorative casting, but this is now worn-looking. |

Made by Ives & Allen of Montreal between 1859, the year the company was established and 1868, when Mr. Ives took over the company and expanded it. Last belonged to Kate Andrew (b.1872 - d.1971) of Owen Sound, Grey County. Her mother was Sarah Andrew (nee McKechnie), who was born in Bentinck Township, Grey County. |
