Description |
This is a carved wooden hen (chicken) figure that is part of a carved set that were hand-made by Earl Cole (b. 1899-d. 1974). The hen is one of two of approximately the same size in this collection and has a red painted comb on its head and wire legs on which it stands. It is carved from basswood and stained. The carving is light yellowish in tone and colour and the hen has drawn-on black dot eyes and an closed beak. The barnyard animals and farm pump models were originally glued to the green-painted cloth area of the barnyard (1971.019.001), but are now loose. The eighteen carved animals are made out of basswood, and most of them are stained. |
