Description |
Metal milk can (no lid). It has SCENIC CITY DAIRY impressed on its front, and a thick pivoting wire lift handle. The base exterior area has four large convex-headed rivets. No maker's mark observed. |
Provenance |
Unknown manufacturer. Custom-ordered and used by the Scenic City Dairy, of Owen Sound, Grey County. The company began in 1939 when partners bought a pre-existing dairy on 8th Street. The new owners renamed it the "Scenic City Dairy." The business partners of this dairy were Robert J. Walter, Thomas J. Rutherford, Jaffray Rutherford, Victor C. Porteous, Sidney (Sid) Murray, and Wilbur Smith. The Scenic City Dairy business was located at 314 8th St. East, Owen Sound. In 1949, the Smith family bought the other shareholders out. Owen Sound's Norman Playter, acquired the item likely at a Grey County auction or from another collector. Grey Roots Museum acquired it from him in 2017. |
