Provenance |
Extracted and salvaged from one of the main floor rooms of Branningham Grove (see main photo). The brick farmhouse was built in 1881 in the former Sydenham Township, on a farm near the eastern outskirts of Owen Sound. Later annexed to the city, its last address was 2010 16th Street East. Its first owners were Walter and Mary Holmes. From 1907-1915, it belonged to Margaret (Mag) Matthews. Agnes Palmour owned it next, and then Dennis Hatton. The Cecil G. Toms family purchased it from the Estate of Dennis Hatton. The Toms family resided there from 1940-1974. Then it was sold to Lillian Weaver, who owned it for several years, and then sold it to the Gavaris family, who operated a fine dining restaurant there called the "Louis' Steakhouse", until 1997. It last belonged to Swisscan Properties Inc. who demolished it in the fall of 2016 to either develop or sell the land upon which it sat. |
