Provenance |
Manufacturer unknown, but the glasses were made in Japan. All pieces date to the 20th-century and belonged to Dr. George S. Burt, a medical doctor at the General & Marine Hospital in Owen Sound circa 1916 and 1917 (listed in the annual reports). In 1903, his business advertisement reads that he once worked at the London Ophthalmic Hospital in London, England, and specialized in ear and throat cases. He visited Durham regularly to see patients. He was President of the Grey Medical Association circa 1921, when he worked at 130 10th Street West (formerly Frost Street). The optometrist, J. Gordon Douglas, is not listed in the 1921 census. The glasses were dispensed in Owen Sound, Grey County. They were last owned by Dave Toms of Owen Sound. |
